Hoodia Patch

Hoodia has been hyped as one of the leading natural weight loss methods since it was introduced to the western world in 1996. There have been numerous satisfied hoodia users who have shed off weight. As a result hoodia products are sought for weight loss purposes.

Hoodia is a South African succulent plant that looks like cactus. It is an endangered species and requires controlled harvesting by certified companies. The species that has capability to help in weight loss is the hoodia gordonii. 12 other species exist.

Controlled harvesting has made hoodia products expensive. This has resulted in the introduction of hoodia products which come cheap as well as substandard. Studies have shown that many of these contain no hoodia gordonii. One such product is the hoodia patch which has raised a lot of debate.

There is controversy concerning the ability of the patch working faster than other hoodia products. Reasons have been given as to why the patch can’t work faster and or even work at all. But considering if it can work, what qualities will it have to possess.

Hoodia patch is a transdermal product. It is supposed to supply active products through the skin which is permeable. These products then travel directly into the bloodstream bypassing the digestion and absorbtion processes carried out in the stomach. This way, the effects of the active product can be faster than taking capsules or powders which must go through the stomach first.

The patch has to be applied to the skin. However there are certain parts where the skin is harder like the palm or foot. The hoodia product is less likely to take effect if placed on these parts.

Also, the active product in the patch has to be hoodia gordonii. This is the hoodia species confirmed to have the P57 molecule which helps in weight loss. P57 acts in a similar way as glucose. It sends signals to the brain indicating optimal blood sugar levels. This way the brain does not send hunger signals to the stomach to produce gastric juices which prompt hunger feelings. As a result you do not feel hunger.

The manufacturer of the hoodia patch is another factor determining if the patch will work for you. There are as many hoodia manufacturers as there are products. Some of these however are out to profit from unsuspecting consumers. It is advisable to find reputable manufacturers.

Certifications are one way of identifying genuine manufacturers. The CITES certification is the most important. This is given to only those permitted to harvest hoodia from South Africa. Other certifications like independent lab tests are necessary.

Only hoodia gordonii has been tested and confirmed to have P57. Hoodia products like pills, liquids and patches will have the molecule provided they are made from pure hoodia gordonii. Being advised against buying a product from manufacturers trying to promote their product is part of marketing. Provided the Hoodia patch being sold has 100% hoodia gordonii then it should work to help you lose weight.
